I can honestly say this was never a costume I intended to make. Crossplay (gender-bending cosplay) hasn’t been a priority on my list, and in reality I was interested in dressing up as Elika from Ubisoft’s recent Prince game rather than the Prince himself. However, one night while out with my friend Ashley, we came up with the idea of putting together a group for San Diego Comic Con featuring female versions of male video game heroes.

Cosplay Feature: Velocity
Velocity – the resident speedster of the Cyberforce crew – was the first character I decided to debut at SDCC 2010. I already had her in mind during the convention the previous year, even before finding out about her timely return to comics via a solo book releasing at the show.
SDCC 2010: A Cosplayer’s Perspective
Yes, San Diego Comic Con has come and gone, and I’ve failed to update my blog with even the smallest mention of the uber-event. Consider this retroactive post a first of many in the next few days, when I will update with full galleries of all the costumes I debuted, as well as images from the show floor. For now, you can get a peek at my week in San Diego via this feature I wrote for gameinformer.com, detailing what SDCC is like through the eyes of a cosplayer. Enjoy!
Cosplay Feature: Aphrodite IX
Update! Aphrodite IX 2.0 costume description and gallery added. Be sure to check it out below.
Aphrodite IX has been a favorite character of mine for a long time. What isn’t there to love? She is a hot android-assassin who forgets who she is after every mission. See? No baggage! Jokes aside, Aphrodite is one of many Top Cow babes who won my heart after I first set eyes on her. The fact that she doesn’t wear much was a plus, as it meant the costume wouldn’t be hard to make.
FCBD/SpringCon Update!
Things have been a bit crazy lately with work and travel lately, so I’m combining a few posts about recent events into one! First, I mostly finished my Silk Spectre II costume, and debuted it at Free Comic Book day with my MN cosplay troop! I also wore the costume to SpringCon two weeks later, and it seemed to go over fairly well. As always, I plan on setting up a shoot to properly show off the costume, and will post a full description and gallery then! For now, enjoy the photos below!
Video Games Live 2010
After years of waiting, Video Games Live finally made its way to Minneapolis in April. This gave me the chance to introduce the concert to family and friends – something I’ve been wanting to do for years.
Friend and VGL host Tommy Tallarico let me help out with the costume contest before the show, so I paraded around in my Mario garb for the entire event. All and all, I enjoyed the concert as much as I did the first four times I attended!
You can check out a handful of pictures from the show below!
Iron Man 2 Premier/Black Widow Costume
A quick and dirty update! I was recently asked by a fellow MN cosplayer Chris Ross to join him at the midnight debut of Iron Man 2 as Black Widow – to complement his ridiculously impressive Iron Man suit. This costume is very much a “closet cosplay” because I didn’t need to buy much to pull it together. The bodysuit was used for Catwoman/Sydney Savage in the past and the wig came from my Poison Ivy costume. I whipped up the bracers and the belt in a few hours and was done.
New Gift Art By Randi LeeAnn
Uber quick update! Awesome pinup artist/fellow Witchblade cosplayer Randi LeeAnn was nice enough to use me as inspiration for her newest piece of art – a tribute to Poison Ivy. This is one of her most impressive pieces, and I say that without bias. The detail work in the hair and leaves is stunning. Check out some progress pictures and the final piece below. Thank you Randi!
MarsCon/Black Canary Sneek Peek!
One more quick update for the day, then I am off to San Francisco for a week! After a LONG month working on Game Informer’s Indie Week and the Portal 2 cover story, I took Thursday and Friday off to catch up on some R&R. And attend a convention, naturally.
Cosplay Feature: Left 4 Dead
Minnesota is known for many things, one of them being the annual Zombie Pub Crawl. I don’t know of other such gatherings across the nation, so I’m going to go ahead and make a totally unverified/bias claim and say that ours is the best Zombie Pub Crawl in the world. Especially because they allow zombie hunters to join in on the fun.
